Mike Southworth, the Republican Candidate for State Senate in the 14th District said on Monday that he has received concerned phone calls about a poll being conducted in the district on the race between himself and Senator James Maroney.

“I started to receive calls from residents concerned that the poll wasn’t accurate, didn’t detail any of my positions on issues that can be found on my website, and didn’t say who paid for the poll,” said Southworth. “I am calling on Senator James Maroney to say who paid for the phone campaign or denounce dark money from coming into a state senate campaign.”

Southworth also stated his disappointment with Senator Maroney’s embrace of Washington style smears. “I am very open with where I stand on the issues, I hope that Senator Maroney condemns any effort to misrepresent my positions and commits to running a clean campaign.”

In calling on Senator Maroney to condemn his dark money allies for employing dishonest tactics, Southworth also voiced his frustration with the distraction from the important issues facing Connecticut. “In the midst of one of the worst public health crises and largest economic struggles, Senator Maroney should not be trying to divide people with misinformation,” said Southworth. “It is unfortunate that Senator Maroney is attempting to obfuscate his record, distract from the issues, and launch personal attacks on my character by proxy.”

The Southworth Campaign urges the Maroney Campaign to disclose whether or not they paid for or are affiliated with any organization who paid for the dark money poll.
